Cascina delle Langhe

The Estate

The story of Cascina delle Langhe begins in 1962, when Giovanni Rossi planted his first Nebbiolo vines on a steep, south-facing hillside that everyone else had overlooked. The soil was difficult — heavy clay over limestone — and the gradient made machine work impossible. But Giovanni saw what others missed: the way the afternoon sun lingered on that slope, the way cold air drained away at night, the ancient limestone that would give the wine its backbone.

Three generations later, his granddaughter Elena tends those same vines. She studied oenology in Alba but learned winemaking at her grandfather's side, in the cellar, where she developed an intuition for Nebbiolo that no university can teach. Her Barolo is traditional in the deepest sense — long maceration, large Slavonian oak, minimal intervention — yet unmistakably her own.

Today, Cascina delle Langhe farms 12 hectares across three vineyard sites in the Langhe hills. The estate remains entirely family-run. Elena makes the wine, her brother Marco manages the vineyards, and their mother Lucia still handles the books. Annual production rarely exceeds 35,000 bottles. Every cork that leaves this cellar carries nearly sixty years of accumulated knowledge — and the quiet conviction that great wine cannot be rushed.

Wines of Cascina delle Langhe

Barolo Vigna del Sorì 2019

Barolo DOCG

100% Nebbiolo

Deep garnet with brick edges. Dried roses, tar, and leather on the nose. The palate is structured yet elegant — fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, a long finish of liquorice and dried cherry. Built to age, but already showing beautiful complexity.

Barbaresco Riserva 2018

Barbaresco DOCG

100% Nebbiolo

More approachable than the Barolo, with perfumed notes of violet, raspberry, and spice. Silky tannins and a persistent, savoury finish. An exceptional example of Barbaresco's grace.
